Emerging into Life

She never understood why,
But when questioned she was punished.
They seemed to be God’s creatures too.
Why did she have to be the one to hunt them?
She had been trained since birth
To feel them, to sense them,
To kill them on sight
Before they slew again with their pure, raw might.
They were strong;
She was stronger.
Never had she lost a fight,
And never would she have, until she met him that night.
She knew what she was getting into
When she played his sadistic game.
He licked, and he bit, and he passed down his secret,
But she no longer cared about facing family shame
As the moon pierced its way through the clouds that night.
The earth seemed to cry in response to the change;
She screamed, and she howled as her body transformed
Into the form that for years she had hunted and slain.
Running through the forest at break-neck speeds,
Turning swiftly on a dime and weaving in and out of trees.
This feeling of freedom, she would never look back.
Timbress, a wolf, howled as she joined his pack.
